Summer is fast coming to an end and before we know it the kids will be back to school (or starting school!) and a new school year will start.
The first day of the school year is a milestone in your child’s life. Each year as they get older their hopes and dreams change.
Growing up my mother would take photos of my twin sister and I on the first day of school each year (this was long before it was popular to do so!). My twin and I weren’t that keen on getting our photo taken, so we would turn our backs to the camera (also long before digital cameras!).
Taking photos of our backs soon became a family tradition – we’ve even got photos of our backs on our wedding days!
I also have matching LAST DAY OF SCHOOL SIGNS!

Back to School Traditions
To continue my childhood tradition I’ve taken photos of my children on their first day of school ever since pre-school. But as the years pass I forget which year is which, but more importantly, I forget what my child was truly like at that age.
Was it during 1st grade or 2nd grade that my daughter was obsessed with mermaids? Did my son want to be a pilot or a firefighter in kindergarten?
So I decided to create these first day of school signs that not only show my kid’s name and grade but also a little more about them! They show their age, favorite things and what they want to be when they grow up.
Now I will have a lasting reminder of exactly what my child was like each year. I just wish I had thought to do this at the beginning of their school careers! I love my new first day of school signs!
