If you are looking for an easy, tasty sweet treat for your kids (or yourself!) then look no further!
These Chocolate Caramel Rice Crispy Treats are pretty much the best sweet treat you will ever find! I kid you not!
This is a family recipe that my mom made for us when I was a child and now I love to make it for my kids. My family calls them “Cracklets” for some reason – no idea why! However, in my house they have the abbreviated name of just “Crack”… because they are so addictive!
I’m not a very good cook. I would much rather be doing a craft project with my kids, like our Super Bouncy Balls or Glitter Slime. However, these Chocolate Caramel Rice Crispy Treats are probably one of the big exceptions to my loathing for cooking!
I love making these! They are simple, quick and don’t need to dirty a million dishes to make them!
Chocolate Caramel Rice Crispy Treats
These are so easy to make – just 3 ingredients, which you could easily pick up at a gas station or convenience store.
To make this recipe even easier each ingredient quality is “3” as well – 3 cups of rice crispy cereal, 3 oz of butter and 3 Milkyway Bars.
Note: in other countries Milkway Bars are often called Mars Bars
What makes them even better is that you don’t have to bake them either!
So let’s get down to it!
Melt 3 oz of butter in a bowl. I use a microwave safe bowl and melt the butter in the microwave (not too long or it will spit and make a mess).
For the chocolate part I use 3 single size Milkyway Bars (1.84oz/52.2g). Cut these up into small chunks to make it easier to melt. You could use a double boiler on the stove, however I find it quicker to use the microwave.
Always be careful when microwaving chocolate as it’s easy to burn it.
Microwave it for short 30 second burst, stirring it fully between each burst until it is completely melted. It should take about 2 minutes in total.
Next mix the melted butter and melted chocolate together. You want to keep stirring them until they are completely mixed together. This can take a few minutes but it’s really important to do.
Once you butter and chocolate are combined it’s time to add the Rice Crispy cereal. Add 3 cups on cereal to mixture and gently stir together. You want to make sure the Rice Crispy cereal is completely coated in the chocolate mixture. It’s a pretty thick mixture and takes some effort… but it’s worth it!
Next put cupcake paper cases in a cupcake pan. This recipe makes 18 treats, so you want 18 cupcake cases laid out.
Now spoon the mixture into each cupcake case, filling it slightly over the top of the paper case. You don’t need to press down or compress the mixture at all. You want it to have a light texture when finished.
Once you’ve filled all the cases you just put the trays in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes.
This is a great recipe for kids to help with, although they might eat quite a bit of the mixture as it is just as addictive when it is warm!
