About You!

On the “About” page on a website, I’m meant to talk about who I am, but really this website isn’t about me… it’s ABOUT YOU!

We all have unique life stories and face our own challenges. But one thing we all have in common is wanting better lives for ourselves and our families.

That’s what this website is about. Helping people just like YOU to live their best possible life.

(I will include a bit about “me” because the chances are that you’ve clicked on this page because you are curious about who I am. But I’m not what this site is about… this site is for YOU!)

Why is Life a ‘Carousel’?

Life can be hectic and finding balance between work, children and home can sometimes feel impossible. I believe that life is like a fairground ride.

Some people are riding a roller coaster with extreme highs and extreme lows, but all that motion can leave you sick and dizzy.

Other people are on a slow boat ride, still enjoying themselves but not appearing to get anywhere very fast.

I believe we can all strive to live our life like a carousel. Finding the balance between the highs and the lows, while enjoying the beauty all around us.

About Me

Sasha - Life's CarouselHi, I’m Sasha, mom to three monkeys children – two sons with a daughter in the middle! They are all relatively close in age – at one point I had 3 children under the age of 4!

I’m fortunate enough to work (more than) full time as a Math teacher at a drop-out prevention high school.  I love my job and working with troubled teens definitely gives me a different perspective on the world, particularly parenting troubles.

For many years I was a single mom and had my fair share of highs and lows! I now have a wonderfully supportive partner, who has stepped up to the role of “Step-Dad” very well!

When not being a mom, blogger or teacher, I love spending time with my pets. I have 4 dogs and 4 cats. Yes… I spend a lot of my time cleaning!

Not So Perfect Housekeeper

Many years ago I had a perfectly clean house. My laundry was all done, the floors were clean and you’d be lucky if you saw a speck of dust. Now? Things are quite different!

OK, so my house isn’t a complete disaster, I won’t be appearing on any episodes of Hoarders any time soon. But Martha Stewart would not be impressed (or my mother come to think of it!).

So what happened? How did things change so much? Well, LIFE HAPPENED! I had kids; I became a working mom; I became a SINGLE working mom!

When I had my first child my older sister (who is also a super-housekeeper) told me that I had to lower my standards and so I did.

When I had my second and third children, she gave me the same advice – “lower your standards”.

When I went back to work after 6 years of being a stay-at-home mom, she told me once again – “lower your standards”!

And guess what she said when I became a single mom? Yep – “lower your standards”.

So now my standards are so low, I don’t think I have any standards left! But I’m working on that!

Growing Up In a Different World

I was born and raised in England, about one hour outside of London. When I talk to my American students about my childhood, they look at me like I was raised during the Victorian era! Apparently, my upbringing was a little more old-fashioned than most! Growing up in a 400-year old cottage in a small farming village in the middle of nowhere is quite different from my life now!

I moved to the USA (Florida) with my husband (now ex-husband!) when I was 22 years old. I’m completely in love with my new adopted country and never want to leave, but I still hold on to my “English-ness” as much as I can!

Over the years I’ve run successful businesses, been a stay-at-home mom (with a farm!), a single working mom on a very tight budget and now I’m a teacher and blogger. I’ve learned a lot and I know I will keep learning throughout my whole life.

Sometimes it feels like the world is moving too fast and I will never catch up.  Other times it feels like things are moving too slowly and never likely to change.
